Bryn Mawr Film Institute, in partnership with Emerging Pictures is the sole area exhibitor of operas from the current season at La Scala in Milan. Featuring 5.1 digital sound, and filmed live with innovative cinematography, the La Scala opera series at BMFI will include pre-opera talks and features by the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Academy of Vocal Arts.
We will offer a new opera every month, starting with Verdi’s Aida in January, designed and staged by Franco Zeffirelli. Five subsequent operas will follow—Verdi’s La Traviata in February, Donnizetti’s Maria Stuarda in March, Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino in April, and then the series will conclude with two operas by Puccini—Il Trittico in May and La Rondine in June. Each opera will screen on one Wednesday evening and one Sunday afternoon of each month, giving you two chances to see it. At the time of printing, some casts are not yet scheduled.
