The soldier Don José falls in love with the beautiful gypsy Carmen, beginning an obsession that will lead both lovers to tragedy. George Bizet’s Spanish sounds took the world by storm, with many of its numbers now secured in the collective cultural memory. This production, staged at Bregenz with a set designed by British artist Es Devlin, who has designed sets for pop stars like Adele, U2, Take That, the Pet Shop Boys and Kanye West, was directed by Danish Opera veteran Kasper Holten.
