Theater 1 (the left side) and Theater 2 (the right side) have been completely renovated with new seats, lighting, carpeting, screens, and wall coverings – and we are again showing films on two theater screens! We have also redone the lobby restrooms, and added sound and light buffers to both theaters. You can experience these changes for yourself on your next visit to BMFI.
Our construction team is hard at work completing the theater addition, which will feature two new state-of-the-art auditoriums, Theaters 3 and 4. These are scheduled to open in February 2014.
We hope you'll join us to celebrate the completion of this eight-month renovation and expansion project at our dedication celebration on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Details will be announced soon.
Thank you for your patience and support during this time of transition.
The new addition's lobby will be industrial chic, featuring the exposed brick of the old exterior wall and exposed, "pickled" steel columns. These stylish prism chandeliers will adorn the lobby ceiling:
Here are some sample colors for the "finishes", which will be used for the seats, carpets, and wall fabrics in the new theaters:
The seat colors are the swatches on the left: red for Theater 3, and green for Theater 4.
We also have an updated rendering of the addition façade as seen from Central Avenue:
The site plan (below) shows the theater addition on the west side of the existing theater building. All patrons will still enter at the Lancaster Avenue entrance under the Hamilton Marquee and via the historic Rutkowski Box Office.
This is the final phase of the decade-long mission to renovate and revitalize this historic Bryn Mawr theater — a project the Commonwealth believes in, a project we can all be proud of: a quartet of beautiful theaters to do justice to the programming that our audiences love, and to make Bryn Mawr Film Institute a more financially secure organization.
