Theater 5 FAQs

May 5, 2020

Our theater on Lancaster Avenue may be temporarily closed, but we’re still working to bring you new release movies, film intros and discussions, and other programming, accessible from home via Theater 5.

If you’re encountering technical difficulties, please check the FAQs on this page. Troubleshooting support for each distributor’s online screening room is below. If your question isn’t answered here, please submit a support request to through the portal at the bottom of this page.

Frequently Asked Questions about New Releases

Q: How do I watch the films?
A:
Go to the Theater 5 section of our website and find the page for the film you’d like to see. The red WATCH button will take you to an online screening room where you can buy a ticket and view the movie. Please note that the rental period varies from title to title. A portion of your purchase will help support BMFI!

The screening room website and streaming platform will vary depending on the film and the distributor. Certain streaming platforms may require to you to create a new account the first time you login. You’ll find details about each streaming platform below.

Q: I just purchased the film, but I don’t see how to watch it?
A: Once you’ve purchased your ticket, most titles should be available to view via their online screening room. If you’re not able to watch your film through this page, please check your email to ensure that your purchase was processed. Some platforms may send you a viewing link by email. These emails may be in a clutter, junk, or spam folder if this is the first time you’ve purchased a movie from a particular distributor. If you’re still having trouble accessing your film, please submit a support request through the portal at the bottom of this page.

Q: Will BMFI members receive discounted tickets for virtual cinema films?
A: Unfortunately, we aren’t able to offer member pricing for most of our new release titles, due to our distributor agreements. However, we’ll be extending all memberships for three additional months to make up for the time that we’re closed! Renting new release titles supports BMFI and helps ensure that we can come back strong once it’s safe to reopen. If you’d like to make an additional donation to BMFI, you can do so here. We’re grateful for your support!

Q: Can I use a BMFI gift card to rent a new release title?
A: Unfortunately, we’re not able to support this option right now. Hold on to your gift cards–they’ll come in handy when we reopen!
