Summer Filmmaking Workshop

Write, produce, direct, and edit a film under the guidance of a professional filmmaker. Collaborate to create a polished script and short film through the experiential process of pre-production, production, and post-production. Work with fellow aspiring filmmakers to learn the art and craft of filmmaking while creating a movie that expresses your ideas in your voice. Get hands-on experience with professional equipment, use current techniques, and learn life and job skills through the inspiring and collaborative process of creating media art.

Once completed, your film won’t gather dust. We’ll put it on the big screen at Bryn Mawr Film Institute. In addition, a number of workshop participants have used their work in the SFW as part of successful applications to film schools like the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and other programs at universities like Villanova, and have put their SFW experiences to work in film and media internships and jobs.

Below you’ll find links to the program’s past films, including one from the 2013 SFW, “The Best Fit,” which won Judges Award for Special Achievement at the 2014 WHYY Youth Media Awards and placed second in overall competition. Watch a behind-the-scenes look at the 2015 SFW working on their film “The Other Side.”
