Though Vincent van Gogh never visited Japan, his encounters with Japanese art in the galleries of Paris gave his work a new and exciting direction. Based on the exhibition “Van Gogh & Japan” at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, this film traces a little known thread of the painter’s artistic journey, traveling to France, the Netherlands, and Japan to explore the heritage made him the artist we know today.
Producer Phil Grabsky will join us for a digital Q&A following the Sunday, September 1 screening.
