Flannery O’Connor was one of the defining writers of the Southern Gothic style, known for her piercing, unsentimental, and sometimes macabre fiction. Yet, the author herself was shy and devoutly religious, and spent much of her writing life confined to her family’s Georgia farm, due to her lupus. Awarded the first-ever Library of Congress/Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film, this documentary explores the life and work of an American literary icon.
