Moonlighting as a sex worker, university student Akiko encounters an elderly widower who seems more interested in playing house than a physical liaison. The next day, roped into drama with Akiko’s suspicious boyfriend, the old man assumes the role of her grandfather, leading to unforeseen repercussions. This late-career film finds Kiarostami working with a master’s confidence, transposing his investigations of identity and impersonation from his native Iran to Tokyo.
