4K restoration! In 1866, Venice is occupied by the Austrian Army. Despite her ties to the Italian resistance, a married countess (Alida Valli) begins a delirious affair with a rakish Austrian soldier (Farley Granger), jeopardizing her fortune, reputation, and the fate of Venice itself. With a lavish visual style to match its feverish drama, Senso reaches heights worthy of the famed Teatro la Fenice opera house, where the story begins.

Shown in conjunction with the film course Rapture and Rebellion: The Cinema of Luchino Visconti, this screening will be introduced by the course’s instructor, Maurizio Giammarco, Ph.D.
