A striking still-life hung on the wall of Lilka Elbaum’s childhood bedroom in Lodz, Poland, until a tide of anti-Semitism in the late ’60s forced her family to flee the country. Returning to Poland nearly fifty years later, Elbaum finds herself face to face with the painting once more. This sweeping documentary follows Elbaum as she traces the painting’s journey—and with it, the story of Lodz’s Jewish community, from the pre-war period to the present.
