Strange Truth 2023
(R) USA/Canada – 1 hr 31 min
2021 · d. Nia DaCosta
Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo
They say that before the neighborhood was gentrified, Chicago’s Cabrini-Green housing projects were haunted by a supernatural killer known as Candyman. When frustrated painter Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) begins to explore the macabre legend in his work, he opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and sets him on a collision course with destiny. A horror classic gets a contemporary incarnation in this blood-chilling work from Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele.
Musician Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (aka Lichens), who composed the score, will join us for a post-film conversation, moderated by Prof. Matt O’Hare of Haverford College.
