Starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross

“Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me!” A directionless college grad (Dustin Hoffman) drifts into an affair with an older married woman (Anne Bancroft), only to fall in love with her daughter (Katharine Ross). Injecting a European arthouse sensibility into its distinctly American setting, The Graduate’s depiction of suburban ennui resonated with the youth culture of its era, becoming the top grossing film of the year and being nominated for—but not winning—the Best Picture award.

Shown in conjunction with the film course Oscar Zeitgeist: Best Picture as Cultural Barometer, this screening will be introduced by the course’s instructor, Paul Wright, Ph.D.
