Starring Lana Turner, John Garfield, Cecil Kellaway, Hume Cronyn

Things seem to be looking up for drifter Frank Chambers (John Garfield) when he scores a gig at the Twin Oaks Diner—and catches the eye of the owner’s gorgeous wife (Lana Turner). Before long, the illicit lovebirds have shacked up and hatched a murderous plan to claim the business for themselves. But fate has some cruel surprises in store. Adapted from James M. Cain’s novel, this proto-erotic thriller blazes with its leads’ sizzling chemistry.

Shown in conjunction with the film course The Dark Side of Hollywood: Film Noir, this screening will be introduced by the course’s instructor, Andrew J. Douglas, Ph.D.
