1973 · d. Robin Hardy
Starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland
Summoned to a remote isle to find a missing girl, devoutly religious Sgt. Howie (Edward Woodward) discovers that paganism is alive and well among the residents. Though the local lord (Christopher Lee) insists their strange songs and ribald rituals are simply benign religious practice, Howie begins to suspect that a dark rite is underway. Building to an infamous, unforgettable climax and influencing countless other works (including 2019’s Midsommer), The Wicker Man was dubbed “the Citizen Kane of horror movies” by Cinefantastique magazine. Join us this May Day weekend to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The May 18 screening will be shown in conjunction with a Cinema Classics Seminar, taught by Andrew Owen, Ph.D. On this date, seating for screening-only attendees will begin at 7:00 pm. Just want to see the film? Purchase your tickets from this page.
