While visiting the decrepit manor of mad spinster Miss Havisham (Martita Hunt), orphaned Pip (John Mills) is entranced by her elegant ward, Estella (Valerie Hobson). When he is sent to London by a mysterious benefactor to become a gentleman, Pip believes he is being groomed for Estella’s hand—but the truth is far stranger. Charles Dickens's beloved novel comes to life in this classic adaptation by David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago).
