Joseph L. Mankiewicz: Fasten Your Seatbelts

No one could turn a phrase like Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Responsible for many of cinema's great one-liners, the screenwriter-turned-director explored a set of core themes over his genre-spanning career, including the persistence of the past, the allure and perils of glamour, and a focus on independent, self-reliant women. We kick off the summer with four of his best.

Shown in conjunction with the film course All About Elegance: The Films of Joseph Mankiewicz, each screening will be introduced by the course's instructor, Jennifer Fleeger, Ph.D.
