Job Description

Bryn Mawr Film Institute seeks a full-time theater manager to lead and support daily operations in its historic four-screen cinema. The ideal theater manager is a friendly, outgoing, customer service-oriented individual who can manage a team of creative and dedicated staff, ensure films are presented at the highest quality, and work to give our movie-loving community the best theater experience possible. Ideal applicants will exhibit good verbal communication and cash-handling skills.   

This position is full-time. Availability to work evenings and weekends is a must. Morning and afternoon availability is a plus.

Mission Statement

Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI) is a nonprofit, member-supported motion picture theater and film education center located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. BMFI is dedicated to promoting shared experiences that entertain, engage, and educate audiences through a diverse range of independent-minded films, a full curriculum of courses, and an extensive program of special events. BMFI builds community through film culture while maintaining strong connections to its historic venue’s cinematic past.

Responsibilities

• Operational Management: Oversee the daily operation of the theater, managing floor staff, and ensuring cleanliness and safety standards are upheld.
• Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to front-of-house staff, including training, coaching, and performance management.
• Problem Resolution: Address customer concerns and operational issues promptly and effectively, striving for quick resolutions and maintaining positive customer relations.
• Financial Management: Handle cash transactions, reconcile daily sales, and assist with financial reporting as needed.
• Promotional Activities: Assist with special events to enhance the theater’s reputation in the community.
• Customer Service Excellence: Greet patrons, and assist with ticket sales, concessions, and inquiries, ensuring an enjoyable experience for every guest.

Qualifications:

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Projection experience (digital and/or film) is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience in a customer service or hospitality role preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with point-of-sale systems is an asset.
