A milestone in visual storytelling, this silent (well, sort of) tale of a farmer tempted by a city vamp toward an unspeakable crime is one of cinema’s most significant works and earned Janet Gaynor the first Best Actress Oscar.

This screening will be presented with a live original score performed by accompanist/historian Ben Model. After the film, he’ll discuss his book The Silent Film Universe, for sale on-site from Main Point Books

The feature will be preceded by a special preshow, featuring era-appropriate cartoons, newsreels, and more. Newsreel images courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive in collaboration with The Packard Humanities Institute. Visit newsreels.net for more information.

This program is presented in partnership with 6abc Philadelphia.
