Carrie (Sissy Spacek) isn't like the other kids at school. It's not just that she's shy, or that she's a late bloomer, or that her fanatical mother (Piper Laurie) locks her in a closet and forces her to pray for forgiveness. Things happen when she's upset. Mirrors crack. Objects upend. When two popular students (Nancy Allen and John Travolta) target her for a cruel prom-night prank, Carrie will give them the most memorable school dance of all time.
Shown in conjunction with the film course Teenage Dreams, American Nightmares: Americana, Youth Culture, and the Horror Film, this screening will be introduced by the course’s instructor, Alice Bullitt, M.A.
