Film History Discussion Series:
1945-Present

10 Mondays, January 27 to March 31, noon to 3:00 pm  
Instructor: Andrew J. Douglas, Ph.D., Deputy Director, BMFI and Jacob Mazer, Director of Programs and Education, BMFI

Join us for a series of discussions charting a course through the post-World War II history of motion pictures. We will take a chronological tour of international cinema, including stops in France, Italy, Sweden, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Chile. Films scheduled to be discussed are:  

Jan 27: The Lost Weekend (Billy Wilder, USA, 1945) 
Feb 3: The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock, USA, 1963) 
Feb 10: The Golden Coach (Jean Renoir, France/Italy, 1952) 
Feb 17: Cries and Whispers (Ingmar Bergman, Sweden, 1972) 
Feb 24: Breaking Away (Peter Yates, USA, 1979) 
Mar 3: Rouge (Stanley Kwan, Hong Kong, 1987) 
Mar 10: American Movie (Chris Smith, USA, 1999) 
Mar 17: Whale Rider (Niki Caro, New Zealand, 2002) 
Mar 24: The Social Network (David Fincher, USA, 2010) 
Mar 31: No (Pablo Larraín, Chile, 2012) 

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there has been a change to the sequence of films. The Birds will now be presented on February 3. The Golden Coach has been rescheduled for February 10. 


Course Information

Location: Theater 3

$200 for members, $265 for non-members; no "a la carte" enrollment.
