Sensory Friendly
Every Wednesday, BMFI schedules a select showtime with conditions designed to accommodate people with sensory sensitivities. These Sensory Friendly screenings feature one of our latest main attraction films with modified theater conditions, including lowered sound volume and dimmed lights, to create a sensory-friendly environment. BMFI is pleased to offer these enhancements to create a welcoming atmosphere for patrons who may benefit from an alternative theatrical experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What makes these screenings Sensory Friendly?
A: Sensory Friendly screenings feature the house lights kept at a low level for the entire screening instead of a completely darkened theater, and sound volume will be at a lower level during all trailers and the feature. Patrons may move around the auditorium as needed. BMFI provides a designated quiet space on the benches in the rear lobby to allow patrons to step away to self-soothe, regroup, or calm a crying infant before returning to the screening.
Q. Who would benefit from Sensory Friendly screenings?
A: Sensory Friendly screenings are for anyone who may prefer accommodations such as lowered sound volume and dimmed lighting to enjoy the theatrical moviegoing experience. Beneficiaries can include, but are not limited to, those with neurodivergences including autism, and infants accompanying caregivers who want to go to the movies.
Q. When do Sensory Friendly screenings take place?
A: Sensory Friendly screenings are on Wednesdays. There is one matinee showtime with sensory friendly accommodations. Check this page weekly for specific films and showtimes, or sign up for our weekly email updates to get the schedule in your inbox.
Q: How will I know which screenings are Sensory Friendly?
-
A: Sensory Friendly screenings will be designated with a “SF” symbol after the showtime.
Q. How much do tickets cost?
A: Regular ticket prices apply to Sensory Friendly screenings. Our prices are listed here. Caregivers accompanying disabled adult clients, and infants accompanying caregivers, are admitted free.
Q. What kinds of movies do you show at Sensory Friendly events?
A: Sensory Friendly screenings feature newly released films currently playing at BMFI. Check our schedule for the latest showtimes.
Q. Is there an age limit for who can attend?
A: As we are screening first-run features, some of the content may not be appropriate for younger audiences. Children under 6 will not be allowed to attend any rated R screenings. Appropriate content warnings will be posted at our Box Office on the day of the screening to help you make an educated decision regarding whether this programming would be right for you and/or your child.
Q. Is there an age limit for babies?
A: There is no official age limit for babies. However, because Sensory Friendly screenings feature new films which are appropriate for mature audiences, this program is recommended for moviegoers with children no older than 18 months.
Q: What happened to Going Gaga?
A: Going Gaga is now Sensory Friendly. The theater modifications include those from Going Gaga, such as dim lighting for ease of mobility and lowered sound volume so as not to disturb baby’s sensitive ears. Sensory Friendly screenings welcome older kids and adults who may benefit from the same theater modifications as Going Gaga for a variety of reasons. You and your infant are very welcome to attend Sensory Friendly screenings!
Q. Can I nurse in the theater?
A: Yes. Diaper changing stations are available in the rear lobby restrooms as well.
Q. Will my stimming, crying baby, or need to move around disturb anyone?
A: No! Sensory Friendly screenings are intended specifically for individuals with needs like these. Everyone in the theater will know that the screening is Sensory Friendly, and your behavior will be accepted and understood. If any audience member takes issue with the Sensory Friendly environment, please see BMFI staff for assistance. This is an inclusive space for those who need additional accommodations to enjoy the cinema.
Q: I have other questions. Who can I ask?
A: Please contact the Box Office with any questions.
